PDA Cases – The Ultimate Protection
Palm Pilots are resourceful and practical devices to organize your professional and personal life. However, these gadgets are far from inexpensive; therefore you should take special care to protect your treasure from scratches, dings, and falls. PDA cases were once a one-size-fits-all area of accessory; however, now PDA cases come in varying designs, materials, and appearances.
There are basically two categories of PDA cases; there are the less expensive lightweight covers and there are the tank models. Although the lightweight cases provide less protection, they are very useful in guarding against scratches and other contact damage. On the other hand, the heavy-duty cases will protect against nuclear holocaust, but add a little bulkiness to the device.
First in line of PDA cases are the Flexi cases. These are lightweight, silicone covers that primarily protect against scratches and dust. The advantages to these covers are that they are inexpensive, are very effective at protecting against less devastating damage, and add no additional size to the PDA. However, if you hit your PDA with a hammer, this cover will fall a little short of fortification.
The next level includes the Air case, Form Fit case, Wallet case, and lower end hard cases. The Air cases are made of polycarbonate, which is a hard, clear plastic that offers a higher level of protection than the more flimsy Flexi cases. The Form Fit case, on the other hand, is a belt clip version made of fitted leather. Offering an impressive level of protection, this device is also not as expensive as some of the other leather cases available. The Wallet cases, also known as Palm Pilot wallets, are exceptionally useful as they combine the PDA case with your wallet. With places for money, business and credit cards, and expansion card slots, this case gives you one less thing to keep up with as it merges two essential articles. The Wallet cases are also made of leather.
A step up from these protective cases is the Leather Latch case, Side case, and various hard cases. The Leather Latch case is similar to the Form Fit case, as it is a belt clip case; however this case does not completely cover the device like the Form Fit. More like a regular cell phone clip, it allows you to easily remove the PDA from the case. However, this could also mean that it makes it easier for your PDA to fall out of the case. The Side case also has a belt clip, but is a side-loading leather case that provides easier insertion into the case.
The highest end cases for PDA’s are the varying designs of hard cases. While there are less expensive versions of hard cases, it really depends on the model of PDA you have which case you may utilize. Varying by model, some of these cases have metal exteriors, while others have plastic. However, most models have space for expansion cards, spring-loaded covers, and smooth interior linings to keep your device safe.
Utilizing a PDA case is advisable; you would hate to spend money on a device, only to damage it unnecessarily.
